Teh basic infoz
I was born in Obninsk in the former USSR—about 100 km southwest of Moscow—to an accountant (right, mom?) and a computer programmer. We left to seek the American Dream in 1997. I still haven't quite found it.
I think my mum and dad wanted me to be a lawyer or mathematician or something, but that didn't really work out. Today, you can find me happily double-majoring in Computer Science and Communication Design at Washington University in St. Louis, geeking around my dorm, festering in studio or the comp. sci. lab, or entertaining myself with talking at people in a language they don't understand.
...and I spend a lot of my free time being a geek and working on personal projects, which straddle that center between design, art, and computer science. Sometimes it's making web sites, like coding up a PHP/MySQL-driven portfolio organization tool for myself, or a little chat bot, whatever I can apply my skills to. Other times, a lot of illustration—recently I've been spending a lot of time on working on a graphic novel with a few friends, for which I've been doing a lot of character design, concept art, web programming (yep), and comics. Comics, actually, is a creature in and of itself. Sometimes they're ones I put a lot of effort into, but most of the time they're pretty XKCD-like.
...Which right now, while I'm still in school, seems so far away. I hope to one day explore some career options in the field of illustration/animation, or, true to form, user interface design and development for software, web or otherwise. Right now I'm just sort of a freelance graphic designer/web designer/illustrator/whatever-comes-my-way-er. Half the trouble will be reconciling those, ultimately, so we'll see how that goes!
...and I'm kind of a brain. It gets me out of pickles often, but also gets me into them quicker. Meh.
We could have been good pals. I in no way come close to his genius, of course, but he too was extending his creativity in the middle of the arts and sciences—was similarly pretty weird, loved horses, was born in the middle of April, and (what is perhaps most like me than anything else) seldom finished what he started. Geez, I do that a lot.
Also, he was apparently pretty cute. But anyway.
...I play the piano and the horn, love snow, horses, and owls, want to learn German, live in North Europe for a bit, love writing really long sentences, and I really do have a big bright orange laptop.
Yep, I just added some dashes, and isn't it so much easier!)
If you read down to here, you either like reading, like me, are a marvelously patient person, or are my boss. Either way, I like you already! :)
If you have more minutes to spare, I have something of a blog over here and a portfolio.
